Alright, as we've seen in Through the Looking Glass, Jack leads an absolutely miserable life outside the Island, he's not a leader anymore, nobody needs him, he's lost Kate and Juliet.

We find that the man who so despretly wanted off the Island wants nothing more but to return to it.

I'm guessing that if Flash Forwards become a staple in the shows story telling, we'll find that nobody will lead a good life outside of the Island, if you think about it, the Island has done so many good things for them.(psycially and mentally)

Cured Rose's cancer.
Healed Locke on numerous occasions.
Let Sun and Jin become a regular loving couple again(and let Sun be pregnant)
Helped Charlie find love and cope with addiction.
Helped Hurley escape his "curse".

The list goes on

I'll think we'll find that nobody will be able to readjust to life outside the Island. Claire will be a single mom with no support whatsoever. Jin will have Paiek's henchman bully him into doing various deeds. Locke will be separated from the only place he ever found happiness. Jack doesn't feel like he belongs anywhere anymore. Rose's cancer could possibly return.

Does anybody share these views?

I have always felt that, from Season 1 onwards. I was glad to see the flash-ahead confirmed that view (which is probably one reason I liked it, while so many didn't.)

As far as Kate "being happy," there are all kinds of prisons, and some of them are lushly furnished, with nice cars, social acceptability, etc.

Hurley is the character I worry about. His enormous estate would go to his parents, probably. Both of them looked pretty selfish - and while they would probably be glad to see him alive, there would be terrible complications if they thought they would inherit his money - and now aren't going to.

Further, I'm of the strong opinion that whatever was wrong with you before you hit the Island will be wrong with you again, and perhaps worse this time. Awhile ago (can't remember the ep) Hurley made a reference to heading off for the caves to live by himself, to be one of those crazy shaggy men who "throw doody at people," I think is what he said. That actually could come true for him, did he return.

The thought of pregnant Sun and Jin on the run from the Korean mob is pretty bleak.

There are pretty few certain things in this show. One of them is that the flashbacks could be relied on for truth. The flashbacks were a kind of "chorus," letting the viewer know what was "really" going on. Thus we can believe with assurance that Kate did burn up her stepfather; that Sun's father is indeed a mobster; that Sawyer really did kill a man; that Libby really was in the mental hospital with Hurley, etc.

One other thing about this show that I at least have hung onto is the "prophecy" regarding Aaron and Claire. While the writers have sort of let that theme drop, IMO it was a very powerful theme and I hope it's taken up again. That Aaron needed to be raised by Claire seems to me to be one of the *cardinal* elements in this story. Would that happen, were Aaron and Claire to return to "our world?" As it is, Aaron's life is pretty idyllic - he is always with his mom, or surrounded by people who love him and are highly invested in his well-being. Would that be the case for him, were he to return? I can see him getting shoved in foster care or something - which would mess both of them up quite a bit.

So if Aaron indeed has some special role or destiny, then it seems to me that taking him off the Island is *not* the thing for him.
