LOST: Why bring Hurley along?
Jan. 31st, 2007 04:55 pmMy thought about why Hurley is also on the dock with Jack, Kate, and Sawyer: because Hurley is a pure soul. Notice the other three (Jack, Kate, Sawyer) who were held by the Others have been abused, tortured, locked up, etc. Notice also how those three have struggled with criminal pasts, with arrogance, with hubris. But not Hurley.
I think he's more than an errand boy in this situation. For some reason, the "forces" of The Island (the animals, the Others, the smoke monster, the weird woman Danielle) do not mess with him. It's as if he has a "safe conduct pass," and IMO it is because of his good heart.
